Hyliko: the first retrofitted hydrogen trucks soon on the road

It's not yet an official handover, but it's only a matter of days (and administrative delays): Hylico's hydrogen-retrofitted trucks have been officially approved by the UTAC. The retrofit kit developed by Hyliko on 44-tonne and 26-tonne rigid tractors has just been validated, marking a new step towards the introduction of hydrogen-powered heavy vehicles on French roads. All that's missing is the administrative sesame (vehicle registration document), "before the Olympics", according to Ovarith Troeng, Managing Director of this young company.
It took two years of work to go from the first concepts to these first rolling vehicles. This work is also the result of a rich collaboration aimed at achieving several key players to achieve a complete ecosystem around hydrogen: Toyota for fuel cells, Forsee Power for batteries, Allison Transmission for the gearbox, Dana for power electronics, OP MObiity (Plastic Omnium) for tanks, Atawey and Lhyfe for green hydrogen refuelling, with also Safra and Bulltech.

For the development of its vehicles, Hyliko relied on Transpolis, a test centre already named the State's technical service, which made it possible to test the performance and safety of the vehicles.

The Hy T44 (44-tonne tractor) and the HyR26 (26-tonne 6×2 and 6×4 trucks) are based on retrofitted Renault Trucks vehicles. The first homologated 26-tonne rigid is also bodied with a 16 t/m Hiab X 188 HiDuo crane platform was mounted at the rear overhang by Carrosserie Serignac.
8X2 and 8×4 32-tonne rigids will soon be approved.
