Symbio and Kawasaki team up for hydrogen-powered machines

Hydrogen mobility specialist Symbio has joined forces with general engineering manufacturer Kawasaki Heavy Industries to jointly develop fuel cell systems, particularly for construction machinery. The aim of the agreement is to integrate and leverage Kawasaki's construction equipment network with Symbio's expertise in automotive fuel cell technology. Since the 1960s, Kawasaki has equipped machines with its hydraulic solutions, which have been adopted worldwide by construction equipment manufacturers. The Group has also developed high-pressure hydrogen gas valves for fuel cell vehicles, mass-producing them for industrial vehicles and major automakers outside Japan. Symbio, owned equally by Forvia, Michelin and Stellantis, inaugurated SymphonHy in 2023, the largest Gigafactory dedicated to fuel cell production in Europe, with a capacity of 50,000 systems per year.
