Daimler launches construction of new spare parts site

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has launched the construction of its new spare parts logistics site in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Built on a gross surface area of 270,000 m2, it will provide around 260,000 m2 of logistics space. Up to 600 jobs will be created.

It will supply all Mercedes-Benz trucks worldwide with spare parts, using components from some 2,600 Mercedes-Benz Trucks suppliers. The new site will also serve some twenty regional logistics centers around the world, which in turn will supply their regional dealers. Our new Global Parts Center is the largest logistics project in our company's history," said Jörg Howe, Head of Global Communications and External Affairs, at the groundbreaking ceremony. In the future, this site will play a crucial role in the operation of our trucks, and therefore of our economy and society."

The new site has been designed to eliminate the use of fossil fuels from the outset: it will be heated by electric heat pumps, and the roofs will be fitted with photovoltaic systems, with a capacity to produce up to 13 million kWh of electrical energy per year (more than that consumed on site).
