Freight transport is entering a new phase, with activity in the sector down 6.4% in Q2 2023, compared with the previous quarter, according to figures published by the French Ministry of Transport. According to TLF, this fall can be explained by the downturn in national consumption of goods. "Own-account transport (-9.7%) is more affected than for-hire transport (-5.9%). With just 40 billion tonne-kilometres, the quarterly volume of road freight thus falls below last year's level... and even below its pre-sanitary crisis level (-4.6% relative to Q2 2019)". notes the federation in its analysis.
