Renault Trucks converts a truck to electric power

Renault Trucks has converted a 12-tonne diesel forwarder into a battery-powered electric truck, in collaboration with Novumtech and with the support of the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (Ademe). Once approval has been obtained for this vehicle, a test phase in real operating conditions will be carried out in partnership with Clovis Grand Paris. The aim of the project was to assess the environmental, technical and economic relevance of electric retrofitting. Novumtech contributed its expertise in battery design and production.
The conversion was based on the modification of combustion engine components (engine, gearbox, fuel and AdBlue tank, hydraulic pump for power steering, pneumatic compressor for suspension and braking, and air conditioning compressor), replaced by an electric motor directly connected to the drive shaft. A 210 kWh Lithium-ion battery pack, a 22 kW on-board charger, an electric air compressor for suspension and braking, an electric hydraulic pump for power steering, an electric air-conditioning compressor, and an electric heating system for the cab have also been integrated.
