Tadano unveils its new 250-ton crane

Presented at the last Bauma, the new Tadano AC 5.250-2 crane has been equipped for its market launch with new features, further enhancing its performance, particularly in terms of safety. This 5-axle crane, with a rated capacity of 250 tonnes, has seen its load chart improved: with its 70-tonne jib, lifting capacity is 14.5 tonnes for a reach of 12 to 24 metres. At a reach of 42 meters with a boom length of 47 meters, it is still 11 tons. The 70-meter main boom can be extended by 42 meters using a main boom extension, to reach a maximum length of 112 meters. This versatile machine is equally at home on tower crane assembly sites and on all types of construction sites. In its 12-tonne axle-load configuration, it is equipped, if required, with a 3-sheave hook for lifting loads of up to 67.3 tonnes, or a 5.8-metre heavy-duty jib; transport brackets for the main boom extension are also included in this 12-tonne configuration.

New assistance systems

Tadano's new 5-axle crane comes fully equipped as standard. Like all new mobile cranes, it features the IC-1 Plus control system. It determines in real time the crane's maximum load capacity for each boom position, according to the angle of rotation of the turret section. This is particularly important when the counterweight is reduced and the outriggers are not fully deployed. The AC 5.250-2 takes full advantage of this, as its stabilizers can be deployed asymmetrically in five positions. The optional Surround View camera system makes it easy for the crane operator to position the crane on site. This patented system uses the six cameras to display, in a computer-aided representation, the maximum possible ranges of the outriggers at the crane's current location. "With the Tadano Surround View system, the crane operator can see on a screen in the cab exactly how he needs to position the crane on the site, so as to be able to sufficiently extend all the outriggers and ensure the required counterweight outreach," explains Peter Kleinhans, Project Manager at the Zweibrücken plant.

The new TailGUARD active reversing assistance system ensures even greater driving safety: when reversing, it monitors the area behind the crane using two ultrasonic sensors, and operates in both daylight and darkness. In future, the AC 5.250-2 will also feature a new additional safety function: the Lift Adjuster. This device will also be available on this crane in 2024. This technical control detects boom deformation and automatically adjusts the lifting cylinder to compensate for the radius variation caused by the deformation.

On the engine side, the Mercedes-Benz engine, with 530 HP and a maximum torque of 2600 Nm, is compatible with HVO alternative fuel and meets EU Stage V requirements. It is also particularly economical thanks to its Eco mode: the engine delivers only as much power to the crane as it needs. The Start-Stop function also saves fuel.
