Energy transition on construction sites: Van der Spek invests in nine Liebherr mobile energy storage systems

Van der Spek, a Belgian distributor of construction machinery, has acquired nine Liebherr LPO 100 mobile energy storage systems to strengthen its offering on construction sites. These units, some of which have already been sold to local companies, will also be available for rent.

Located in Ternat, near Brussels, these systems mainly support tower cranes during the early stages of construction, when the power supply is limited. They can also be used for events or as a backup power supply.

Each unit provides 94 kWh and is an alternative to diesel generators, limiting emissions and noise. According to Erik van Audenrode, commercial director at Van der Spek: "In urban areas, diesel generators are often no longer an option. Belgium and the Netherlands are following suit, and we are well prepared for this."

At a construction site in Tubize, Schoukensbouw uses two systems to power a Liebherr 550 EC-H crane, covering peak power demands and ensuring a stable power supply.

Van der Spek plans to expand its portfolio of storage systems and related services in 2026, targeting various applications in construction, events, and emergency power supply.
