Green hydrogen: Lhyfe obtains a record €149 million subsidy for its Le Havre site

Lhyfe, the French green hydrogen specialist, has been awarded a historic €149 million grant for its future "Green Horizon" production site in Le Havre. This grant, the largest ever announced under the new National Hydrogen Strategy, will enable Lhyfe to pass the 100 MW mark in installed electrolysis capacity. The Lhyfe production site will be located on a 2.8-hectare site in Gonfreville-l'Orcher, and is scheduled to open in 2029. It will power one of Europe's largest industrial port areas, contributing to the decarbonization of regional industry and mobility.

The project was selected in 2022 by the European Commission as part of the PIIEC program, and plans to produce 34 tonnes of green hydrogen per day by 2029. The contract, signed with Bpifrance, provides for an initial payment of €18 million by June 2025. A second instalment will be released in the following months, depending on the achievement of milestones specified in the contract. Subsequent payments will take the form of reimbursements of expenses paid and justified by the successful implementation of predefined annual milestones, over a 4-year period and for a maximum total amount of €149 M.
Lhyfe has already been producing and delivering green, renewable hydrogen for over 4 years, with its first plant commissioned in 2021. It now has 4 production sites in France and Germany. Numerous plant projects are underway throughout Europe.
