Positive assessment of the 1st offshore hydrogen production project

After 14 months of experimentation, the Sealhyfe project, designed to demonstrate offshore hydrogen production capacity, has confirmed its objectives. The project (led by Lhyfe) produced hydrogen under the most severe conditions, using a 1MW electrolyzer supplied by Plug. It enabled Lhyfe to develop its expertise in the constraints associated with offshore industrial deployment, thanks in particular to its experience in integrating a plant on a floating barge isolated offshore. The 2nd stage, called HOPE, presented with a consortium of 9 partners, changes scale and aims to commercialize green hydrogen produced at sea: from 2026, this unprecedented project (10 MW) will be able to produce up to 4 tons / day of green hydrogen at sea, which will be exported to shore by pipeline, compressed and distributed to customers. The project has been selected by the European Commission as part of the EuropeanCleanHydrogen Partnership, with a grant of €20 million, supplemented by a €13 million subsidy from the Belgian government. The Sealhyfe project also means that the production processes at Lhyfe's land-based sites are now reliable and optimized, enabling them to be ramped up quickly and progressively. "We can now draw on our experience of our onshore sites and one offshore site to design our next green hydrogen production sites. This reinforces our expertise and the confidence of our partners, and supports the entire industry, because Sealhyfe has made offshore hydrogen production a reality!" emphasizes Matthieu Guesné Founder and CEO of Lhyfe.
