Safety: joint recommendations from INRS and OPPBTP for aerial work platforms

The OPPBTP and INRS share their recommendations for wearing a fall arrest system when using a mobile elevating platform (MEWP), in order to prevent the risk of ejection or fall. "This joint position follows the requests of a number of companies, prevention organizations and prevention providers to the OPPBTP, in order to clarify the conditions of use of PPE in MEWPs. Wearing a harness is therefore recommended at all times in type B boom lifts, and when moving around for type A or scissor lifts, when the risk of ejection is significant," says the OPBTP.

The new guide "Wearing a MEWP fall arrest system: recommendations and guide for choosing suitable PPE" aims to harmonize practices and set out clear recommendations in order to avoid any ambiguity on the subject. "Despite all the care that goes into the use of these MEWPs, there are a number of situations that can cause operators to eject or fall. Also, the choice of the right PPE is a real challenge to avoid these residual risks. Based on the analysis of the claims data related to the use of these elevating platforms, INRS and OPPBTP have developed a comprehensive guide that lists the essential protective equipment that operators must equip themselves with. »
