Liebherr modernizes its Biberach site to build the future of tower cranes

Liebherr-Werk Biberach GmbH, world leader in tower and MK cranes, will invest a nine-figure sum to completely modernize its Biberach site by 2034. The first phase, already underway, will involve several tens of millions of euros to renovate and extend production facilities.

"We're building one of the most modern crane production plants in the world in Biberach,"explains Werner Seifried, head of the Tower Cranes segment. "The market is changing, competition is growing and so are our customers' expectations. We are responding with innovation and sustainability."

The production buildings, some of which date back to the 1980s, will be renovated or rebuilt to enable modular, automated production: 500 tower cranes, 200 MK cranes and 3,000 boom sections per year. The aim is to reconcile flexibility, performance and environmental sustainability, while maintaining normal activity levels.

This modernization will be accompanied by ergonomic workspaces and digital equipment, enhancing both competitiveness and quality of life for employees. The site is also integrated into Liebherr's global network, with Pamplona (Spain) and Pune (India) for specialized production, while strengthening local roots.

The project, to be carried out in five phases up to 2034, illustrates Liebherr's commitment to Germany, its employees and European ESG standards. "We invest as much in our people as we do in our infrastructure," emphasizes Michael Weißschädel, production manager at the site.
