Axima Nucléaire and EDF join forces for future EPR2 reactors

At the World Nuclear Exhibition (WNE), Axima Nucléaire, a subsidiary ofEquans France, and EDF officially signed a major contract for the supply of high-power chillers for France's next six EPR2 reactors.

These back-up systems are the guarantors of nuclear safety, producing and distributing the chilled water needed to cool the air in the nuclear island in the event of a shutdown of the main system. Axima will design, qualify, manufacture and supervise the assembly and commissioning of 30 series chillers, at the heart of a 100% French industrial partnership.

Designed to withstand extreme conditions such as earthquakes, electromagnetic shocks and air crashes, this equipment will be manufactured in Isère, in a new 4,000 m² workshop. Each machine will be subjected to rigorous testing (vibration, accelerated ageing, temperatures up to 50°C), and will incorporate enhanced cybersecurity requirements.

For Joël Guittard, CEO of Axima Nucléaire, this contract "recognizes French know-how and strengthens the country's energy sovereignty". Alain Tranzer, Executive Director of EDF, is equally enthusiastic: "Our shared success is based on performance and safety, to ensure France's future in energy and industry."
