The Mercedes-Benz Mannheim plant celebrates a major milestone with the release of the one millionth Heavy Duty Engine (HDEP) from its production line. This iconic 6-cylinder engine powers all Daimler Truck heavy-duty commercial vehicles. With outputs ranging from 240 kW to 460 kW (326 to 626 hp) and displacements from 10.7 to 15.6 liters, the Heavy Duty range can meet the most varied and demanding requirements.
The OM 471 engine, the latest generation of which was introduced in 2022, benefits from innovations such as optimized piston geometry and improved turbochargers, developed in-house. These advances reduce fuel consumption by up to 4%, cutting costs and CO2 emissions.
The current Mercedes-Benz plant in Mannheim was founded in 1908 and is dedicated to the production of engines and engine components for commercial vehicles. Today, it employs over 4,600 people. The site is also Daimler Truck's center of competence for batteries and high-voltage systems.
