ESTA, the European association for exceptional transport, is studying a three-level training structure for operators of hydraulic modular trailers (SPMT). This initiative aims to standardize skills and safety in this sector, and has been validated by representatives of manufacturers and users.
This training would be divided into three points:
- Level 1: an online module for basic safety, without exam.
- Level 2: classroom training, followed by a theory test for a trailer operator certificate.
- Level 3: advanced training, with theoretical and practical assessment, leading to full ETOL certification.
Next steps: finalization of the content and creation of a multilingual glossary, before presentation of the results at Bauma 2025 in Munich. This standardized training would mark a step forward in the recognition of operators' skills in Europe.
