The Polish company MS Industry mobilized an Enerpac SBL1100 hydraulic gantry crane to install 354-tonne transformers in Baltic Power's offshore substation, located 23 km off the Polish coast. MS Industry delivered and installed two transformers, each weighing 354 tonnes, on site.
The 13.5 m long, 5.3 m wide and 4.8 m high transformers were transported to the installation site using SPMTs. The Enerpac SBL1100 gantry crane was then used to unload each transformer.
This Enerpac hydraulic telescopic gantry crane is the most powerful in the range. Equipped with three-stage lifting cylinders, the SBL1100 lifts up to 12 m at the top of the third stage, and can support up to 10,484 kN on the first stage.
"Space limitations and the inability to use a crane due to variable ground conditions made the Enerpac SBL1100 gantry crane the ideal solution," said Robert Samczyk, CEO of MS INDUSTRY. "The combination of vertical and horizontal movements using the operator's wireless control system gave us the precision we needed to place the transformer in the installation path."
Currently under construction, Baltic Power is aiming to produce 1.2 GW by 2026.
