Over 700 million euros more from Europe for the Lyon-Turin project

The European Commission has awarded a further 700 million euros in subsidies for work on the new Lyon-Turin line.

This is the 3rd largest financing among 134 selected projects, for a total amount of 7 billion euros, via the CEF, Europe's tool for strategic investment in transport infrastructure. This funding, combined with that of the French and Italian governments, provides the financial cover needed to continue the work.

Lyon-Turin is the new 270 km-long railroad line, 70% of which is in France and 30% in Italy. The project includes a 57.5 km rail tunnel under the Alps, the longest in the world, and the 10 operational construction sites are now at work, including 4 sites for digging the base tunnel (3 in France and 1 in Italy). 37.3 km have already been excavated, including 13.7 km for the base tunnel, out of the nearly 164 km to be completed. The site, which already employs 2,500 people, will have 4,000 direct workers at its peak.
