Leasing: cost of ownership to rise again in 2023

Rental costs were up 5.69% in 2023 compared with 2022, according to the index compiled by the DLR federation. Since 2019, the rise has been over 17%. While energy and diesel costs were down in 2023, the past year also saw a strong upward trend in bank lending rates, from 1.14% in January 2022 to 4.79% in December 2023.

The expense components contributing most to the rise in the cost price index in 2023 are personnel costs (for which the official index is up 4% on 2022), financial expenses, up 32.7%, and depreciation and amortization, up 5%. These three expense components account for more than three quarters of the increase in rental costs in 2023.
The federation reminds us that all equipment rental operators should be aware of this index and distribute it to their own customers.
