Bouygues Construction validates its carbon targets

Bouygues Construction has set itself the target of reducing its carbon emissions by 40% by 2030 (compared with 2021) on scopes 1 and 2, i.e. the direct emissions produced by its own activities. The Group is also aiming for a 30% reduction on scope 3, the indirect emissions generated by the company's value chain, both upstream and downstream (in the operating phase) on the building activity, and a 20% reduction on scope 3 upstream for public works. These targets have been officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), in line with the Paris Agreement and recognizing the Group's commitment to involve all its partners in this approach. The Group is focusing on 8 major action levers, with company-wide progress indicators.

For example, to take action on scope 1&2, the Group will use biofuels for site machinery, is committed to electrifying/hydrogenating site machinery and the vehicle fleet, and will source green energy for the company's consumption. For scope 3, it will implement the use of low-carbon concrete, recycled steel and bio-sourced materials, and components from the circular economy. "The construction industry has historically been a major source ofCO2 emissions, but it now has the solutions to make a powerful contribution to reducing them: by deploying solutions to decarbonize the act of building, by designing energy-efficient buildings, by carrying out energy-efficient renovation of the existing stock and by building the infrastructures of the low-carbon society, particularly for energy production and decarbonized mobility," says Pascal Minaut, CEO of Bouygues Construction.
