Cometto manages the transport of steel coils

Two new Cometto MTH45 transport vehicles have been delivered to the Arcelor Mittal plant in Bremen, where they are deployed to manage the more than 6,000 steel coils stored on a 12-hectare site. "Our design office has shown here what it can do. We practically started from a blank sheet of paper to manufacture a high-tech straddle carrier", explains Joachim Kolb, Cometto Sales Manager. This vehicle can reach a maximum speed of 25 km/h at a weight of 43 tonnes. Even with a payload of 45 tonnes and a total weight of 88 t, it still achieves a respectable speed of 10 km/h thanks to its 500 hp diesel engine.
"As the vehicles are operated in three shifts and the transport routes feature degraded surfaces, we use our patented Cometto air suspension," explains Fabrizio Lippi, Cometto's Technical Director. "This enables us to eliminate around 80% of the extreme vibrations caused by travel on degraded roads. This protects the technology - and even more importantly - the driver's back." The operator also quickly noticed that fuel consumption had fallen by 30% compared with the old technique. A further argument for the continuation of this partnership...
