Last journey with Faymonville for a steam locomotive...

Transporting railway equipment is often a technical challenge, even more so when it involves transporting one of the last examples of a steam locomotive steeped in history. In Germany, an association of locomotive enthusiasts transported a historic Deutsche Bahn locomotive from the port of Karlsruhe to Ettlingen. Rail transport specialist Ehrig Arne KG of Schwarzenberg took charge of the historic vehicle on a Faymonville VarioMAX 2+4 semi-trailer. The black colossus, weighing in at 60 tonnes on the scales, was transported on a one-metre extended tank bed. Extension beams 6,000 millimeters long were installed. The whole unit was fitted out so as to be able to hoist the 13.86-meter-long locomotive, after uncoupling the gooseneck, onto a special ramp equipped with fixed rails installed on the vehicle's inner frame. The total permissible laden weight of the combination was 107 tonnes, for a total convoy length of just over 30 meters...
