Spie batignolles: the Céline tunnel boring machine on a new Grand Paris Express site

The cutting wheel of the Céline TBM has reached its new site, the future Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines railway station. It was transported by special convoy from Massy. Its dimensions are impressive: a diameter of 9.2 m and a total weight of 127 tonnes.

After a successful first mission on lot 1 of line 18, the Céline TBM has been dismantled and reassembled in Saint-Quentin Est station. It will undergo complete maintenance and be renamed before setting off again on its mission in 8 months' time, to dig a 6.7 km section between Saint-Quentin station and Versailles Chantiers.

The consortium comprising Spie batignolles génie civil (leader), Spie batignolles valérian and Ferrovial is working on lot 3a of line 18 of the Grand Paris Express. The project will link Orly airport to Versailles Chantiers. The contract also includes civil engineering work for three stations and the construction of eight service structures, with the drilling of four shafts at depths ranging from 50 to 62 meters.
