New TII systems for transporting 80 m blades

The Vanguard Group, South Africa's specialist in heavy-duty transport, has acquired 6 TII Scheuerle rotor blade transport systems (RBTS). They are used to transport more than 230 wind turbine blades, some 83 meters long.
The Vanguard Group currently transports two rotor blades a week from the port of Ngqura, near Port Elizabeth (Eastern Cape Province), over a distance of around 500 kilometers, to wind farm sites inland.
These blades are among the longest rotor blades deployed on onshore wind turbines currently available on the world market. Once loaded, the vehicle reaches a total length of 95 meters! The Scheuerle RBTS system consists of a 2-axle dolly, a free-spinning device and a 4-axle traction unit. The freewheeler can also be mounted directly on the truck tractor. The lifting height of the freewheeler, up to two meters, is sufficient to overcome obstacles such as uneven road surfaces and bumps.
