Public works: increased funding for the energy transition

With €7 billion in additional funding announced by the government for the energy transition, the Fédération Nationale des Travaux Publics notes an increase in appropriations for infrastructure funding. The PLF 2024 announces an increase of almost 20% in resources for transport: €4.6 million in 2024 for the Agence de financement des infrastructures de transport de France, of which €3.9 million for the maintenance or construction of rail or river lines, as well as for public transport, and €0.7 million for road transport. However, the global economic situation and the non-indexation of local authorities' overall operating grants are also raising concerns about business activity in 2024.

"If public investment in ecological transition in infrastructure is indeed on the cards in the coming months, the public works sector could face the consequences of a possible economic slowdown during 2024," says Alain Grizaud, President of FNTP.
