The three Rabobank logos installed since 2009 at the top of Euromast, the 185-meter-high observation tower in Rotterdam, have been removed following the end of the advertising contract with the site's operator. Mammoet was commissioned by Licht en Reclame Consultants BV to dismantle the 174-metre-high tower.
For this operation, the company mobilized a Tadano CC 38.650-1 crawler crane, chosen for its ability to reach the required height and adapt to the restricted space around the tower. Thirty-eight convoys were needed to transport the components from the Mammoet base in Schiedam. The lack of on-site storage meant that the components had to be delivered on a just-in-time basis.
The crane was erected in four days, using a SWSL 96-96 configuration and 250 tonnes of counterweight. The signs, weighing around 1.8 tonnes each, were then removed without using the superlift system, using 215 tonnes of counterweight.
The job required precise maneuvering between a tree and a lamppost, which limited the turning radius. The team alternated between moving the crane and rotating the load to transfer the logos to the removal area.
The work was carried out between 6 and 10 a.m., so that the site could be reopened to the public on schedule.
