Arnal puts France's first 100% electric empty container handlers into service

This is a national first that could mark a turning point for French port logistics. Arnal, a specialist in maritime container management, has just received France's first all-electric empty container handlers at its Le Havre site. Developed by Kalmar and CVS Ferrari, two world-renowned manufacturers, these machines are set to gradually replace the thermal models still widely used in terminals.

Using these new forklifts saves up to 60 tonnes of CO₂ per year per machine compared with an equivalent diesel machine. The benefits are not limited to emissions. The batteries offer sufficient autonomy for intensive use, and recharge in less than two hours. The absence of an internal combustion engine drastically reduces noise pollution, improving operator comfort while limiting the impact on the immediate environment. Last but not least, daily maintenance is simplified and the batteries, which are fully recyclable, contribute to a more sustainable life cycle.

" We are convinced that the future of port handling lies in electrification and sustainable innovation," emphasizes the group's management. " With this first, we are demonstrating that economic performance and energy transition are compatible. "

ARNAL, headquartered in Sète, is a family-owned company founded in 1947 by Robert Arnal. The company specializes in the management of container depots.
