Germany's Schwarze ASC GmbH has bolstered its fleet with a 150-ton LTM 1150-5.3 from Liebherr, powered solely by HVO 100. This alternative fuel, derived from hydrogenated vegetable oils, delivers CO₂ reductions of up to 90%. This acquisition is part of a sustainable approach: last March, the company converted all its operations to alternative fuel.
"This year, we will save around 850 tonnes of CO₂, , says Nina Schwarze, managing director of this family-owned company. We've already had excellent experiences with the LTM 1130-5.1, and we're delighted to be able to cover the performance class below our 220-ton crane efficiently and sustainably with this 150-ton crane." The new crane's compatibility with sustainable fuels was therefore a key criterion for Schwarze ASC GmbH: like all Liebherr mobile and crawler cranes, the LTM 1150-5.3 is fully approved to run on HVO.runs fully on
"For us, HVO represents a voluntary decision in favor of better climate protection, even if this alternative to diesel is currently more expensive. What really motivated me was that HVO 100 makes it possible to make immediate use of existing technologies - especially powerful internal combustion engines - in an almost CO₂-neutral way, without any conversion. In my eyes, this is far more sustainable than waiting for technologies that, in some parts of this sector, don't even exist yet," explains Managing Director Nina Schwarze.
