Volvo Trucks: gas-powered trucks gain ground in Europe

Volvo Trucks reported a 25% increase in sales of gas-powered trucks in 2024, to over 8,000 units worldwide. The Swedish group benefited from growing demand, particularly in the Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, Spanish and British markets, thanks to a range of gas-powered vehicles suited to long-distance transport, regional distribution and construction.

The FH, FM and FH Aero models, powered by LNG or bio-GNL, offer up to 1,000 km of range, power of up to 500 hp, and a reduction in CO₂ emissions of up to 100% when running on biogas. The range includes gas-powered 4×2, 6×2 and 6×4 tractor/carrier chassis, for loads of up to 60 tons.

This is an advantage for transport companies looking for sustainable solutions, especially as the refuelling network is expanding and tax incentives are multiplying.

"Volvo's gas-powered trucks are a real advantage for transport companies, as they reduce the cost of ownership while mitigating the carbon footprint and maintaining productivity," says Jan Hjelmgren, product manager at Volvo Trucks. The company is counting on this technology, which complements electric and hydrogen power, to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.
